Advice on pattern

Postby Carolyn » Sat Oct 26, 2013 12:44 pm

I saw this and thought it was cute

but can't think why you would knit 2 and sew together - why wouldn't you knit one and sew one seam, or am I missing something?

It wouldn't be big enough! You need about a 14" circumference for the bit to go round the head. you cast on 27 sts which will measure 7 and a bit inches.......so you need 2. :)

I would double it - cast on 54 stitches, then only have one seam

I don't knit but I would think the same as you Carolyn. It saves you having to sew 2 seams.

Yes, that would work I'm sure. I wonder if it has to do with pulling it up at the top? Maybe more even if done in two squares? Can you email and ask?

The only reason I could think of would be that you would have too many stitches on the needle to work with...but that wouldn't be the case for a baby hat!!!!

Cute little hat! x

I wouldn't be surprised if there's not a pattern written by another somewhere it's in 1 piece and to get around copywrite they've re made the pattern in 2 pieces and in simple garter stitch rather than stocking stitch so in effect it's a now a new pattern. It will be a copywrite issue.

I see no reason why you the hat can't be made in one piece or even in the round.
