I'm not posh :o as anyone who has met me or spoken to me will vouch.

I don't know whether any of you read about the navy cocktail parties that they are now going to axe as part of the defence cuts. Well, in the 70's and 80's I lived outside Lisbon and as young single females we used to get invited to these whenever the Nato fleet came into port. I can truly say I have seen the Royal Navy from all angles having visited everything from a minesweeper to a submarine to an aircraft carrier. For those of you with a Navy background I was shown the "golden rivet" on more than one occasion :o
The WRVS had an overseas branch in Lisbon that I joined as probably the youngest ever member in order to help man an information desk where the sailors could find out tourist information and buy postcards etc. It also meant we got invited to lunch in the wardroom. We had some great times - no wonder I didn't get married till I came back to UK - I was enjoying myself too much - happy days :) :) :wine:

Oh My Sheilagh - I have so enjoyed reading your story. Such an interesting and exciting past you have indeed. :) Some amazing facts indeed. Reading some of the facts most definately confirms that I am incredibly boring

WOW - didn't know I was the winner though!

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would love to hear more of these stories from everyone.

Oh. most definitely Sue ...... but what, tell me, is the trick for success? I proved that drawing the entries out of a hat, needle in a haystack, poking a pin in a number and a mathematical layout didn't work ......there has to be a right and a wrong way to do it though!!!!!!!
