hi, I'm new here and need some advice on which type of dies to use on my sizzix machine, I bought it off E.bay but it has no instructions or dies with it. :(

Hi Dorothy and welcome to the forum.

I don't have a sizzix - I have a cuttlebug - but they take similar dies. You can fit loads in the machine - did you get the cutting mats as well as the machine?

What you need to watch out for are lists where they specify the 'sandwich' - here is an example of the spellbinders dies:

Hi, not sure which machine you have, mine is the big shot, it is great, I can use any type of die, not all the wooden ones will work! but in all the dies I have brought it has only been one or two where there has been a problem.
I really like the big shot as you can use the really thick dies, Originals, approx 6"x51/2"x1/2".
Small Green dies, which are 21/4" x 23/4"x1/2", Yellow dies 41/2"x23/4"x1/2" there are also Sizzlets in various sizes. these are very thin approx 1/8" thick. Only really to be used for cutting 1 thickness at a time, but you can find so many shapes you never get tired.

With all "Roller" type machines, you will need to make a "sandwich" if you can use the originals you need only use 2x cutting mats, one at the top and one at the bottom.
Sizzlets, you need the cutting platform as well, cutting platform, cutting mat, die, paper, cutting mat.
With different shims you will find that you get good results with most makes of die, experiment is the name of the game.
Make sure you dont "force" the machine if it dosnt feel it is going to "roll" stop and remove a shim.
Hope this helps you, good luck with all your die cutting

If you buy any Spellbinder dies they give you whatever sandwich you need on the packaging.
If you don't know what to do with new stuff, hide it until you do!
