machine applique

Postby Carolyn » Sun Mar 25, 2018 4:57 pm

Please be honest

Wondering whether to make this into a pocket on a a bag with this fabric.

I can't decide if it is even good enough to put on a bag, and also can't decide if I like the fabric I put it on.

Don't want to make into a bag if not good enough.

Will keep practicising as need to get better.

should sew next one straight to bag.

Love it! Would it work on one of your denim bags? xx

Have gone down the denim route and made these mini bags, so now a pocket on the front as wasn't brave enough to go straight onto a big piece of fabric!

I have done a little house now, will take a pic tomorrow.

Still runs away with me, when I see what others do, I can see I need to practice a lot more

Have you got a speed button on your machine? I've been watching a few tutorials on sewing quarter and she said about practicing with no thread on the machine and putting paper images underneath to trace. (With an old needle as the paper blunts the point).

yes I do have a speed button - and I did slow it down, as found I was better going slower. Lots of tutorials tell you to go at a pace, but given up with that and am going a bit slower.
I did put stitch length to 0 but not sure if that made any difference. I do think gloves might help, Poundland do cotton gardening gloves with those little grippy dots so might give them a go and if they help i could buy the white ones that they sell.

Can you drop your feed dogs? If possible, try stitching one with the dogs up and one with them down and see if there is any difference.

Our quilt group might be doing a free motion class :) but not until next year. :(

Yes my feed dogs drop, you couldn't so it without I don't think, or you cover them up if they don't.

I have done a few other bits will take a pic and share tomorrow

Lucy Brennan on sewing quarter thinks it is easier with the dogs up. (I think it was her).
