My recycled jiffy bags

Postby Aisles » Mon May 30, 2016 6:14 pm

I have been given loads and loads of used jiffy bags plus I have a load from items I've bought off ebay.

I hate to just use them once then throw them out, the problem is they are often covered in address labels, stamps, have dirty marks from going through the royal mail system and some can have a bit of damage.

So I had a long think about how to make them look nice again and be strong for going through the mail system a second time.

I carefully removed all the labels and stamps, cut out the really tattie and dirty bits.

Then I found some good quality clean but used gift wrapping, some paints, some pages from glossy magazines and some pva glue.

I've recovered them with the papers or painted them.

So far I've used one and the lady at the post office asked where do I get all my colourful envelopes from. I told her that I make the normal envelopes myself and the bubble mailers are one's I've covered to make them nice and clean, tidy and strong. She's asked me to show her how so she can do the same with hers.

Here is a photo of a small group I did last week

Oh I should say I simply stick a white label or piece of white paper on their fronts to write the address on and I use double sided stickie tape and cellotape to seal them with.

Beautiful and good for the environment. I have a pile of them that I reuse but some are too tatty to go through the post again. I normally then wrap them in brown paper and send it like a parcel but yours are much nicer.

Thank you everyone. I quite enjoyed working on them. I now have another bunch ready to cover or paint.

What a great idea. I didn't think of covering them like that. I do re-use them by covering the address but that is much nicer.
