I see that this book will be 50 and BBC4 have something on next week. I read it at school and loved and did re read it in my 20s, I really must read it again. Has anyone else read it?

I've read it about half a dozen times. It's definitely in my top 5 favourite books of all time.

It's based in the American South and centres around a lawyer who is representing a black man wrongly accused, as seen through the eyes of his daughter, Scout, but it's not a legal drama by any means, as his relationships with Scout and her brother stand out from the rest of the story. I have a vague recollection of reading it at school. I read a review on-line a few days back and one or two things seemed familiar. One of these days I'll re-read it.

I was thinking of this book a little while ago, I too read it in school but have never read it since. I can remember images of one of the characters (can't remeber details, it was a looong time ago) running across a field dressed as a ham.....I have got the right book haven't I?
Would it be suitable for Jack to read? Trying to remember how old I was when I read it, must have been about 12/13!

That's the right book. Scout was dressed as a ham for a school thing.
I think I was about 12 or 13 when I first read it too.
