I just planted mine yesterday - love it but have never had it in the garden before. Got a good size plant from the garden-centre and hope to have a crop this year already :-)

Upside-down cake with rhubarb and ginger will be the first thing I make :-)

Sorry we only ever use it for crumble.

I've got an easy-peasy fruit flan/crumble recipe which I'll dig out sometime and put here on Sunday.

You could make rhubarb meringue - like lemon meringue. Would probably work quite well as both are quite sharp. Rhubarb fool (and cream).

I am not quite sure how you decide when it is ready - size really I think. Mine is pink champagne (I think) and it is quite skinny compared to some of the other varieties and I did leave it a bit too long last year.

I have read you are not supposed to pick it in the first season - you need to let it develop. This is my 3rd season and it has 2 crowns now.

Some of those recipes looks pretty tasty!

You are supposed to leave new plants for a year to let them establish - so bought rhubarb for you Nikki!

We bought a new plant last year. Will it be ok to cut this year?

I guess it depends if you put it in at the beginning or end of last year. I think it is supposed to have produced rhubarb and left with it on for one year.

Oh hec! Is that really true? It is extraordinarily expensive to buy here and I was SO looking forward to making all kinds of things already this year. We just love it but rarely get it due to price.

Also - does anyone have gooseberries in their garden? Can't get the plants here at all so plan to try to smuggle a seedling back next time we go to the UK! anything special to watch out for with them?

Gooseberries? Urgh! :roflmao:

I think sawflies are a pest. They eat all the leaves off and the plant doesn't like it very much!
