I make mostly 3D decoupage cards (some quite deep) and previously used an ancient HP scanjet which for whatever reason did the job very well and I expected my new beautiful Epson (All in One) job to equally do the job, but found it dire with an obvious depth discrepancy which meant the topmost part of the image was over "exposed" while the card itself and any writing on it was dark and blurry. SO I thought ok - I need a scanner able to scan 3D and thus opted for a Canon Lide60 only to discover it has the same problem.

So before I put myself into yet more debt for another poor outcome, has anyone else got experience of this and perhaps a better (but not too expensive) option for me to look at???

I've tried weighting down the lid but that's not made any difference much either and neither has changing every setting available on it, so not much else I can try! :(.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Hi, I never realised the importance of a good quality scanner until I received some scanned artwork from an artist, and when I went to use it to make some stamps, it had tiny dots all over it from the scan :( .
She had used a all in one, and thought it very good, but Dh says spend more on the scanner as it works better!
I have an Epson 2480photo , and it is fab. I also scan all into photoshop so I can manipulate the scans too.

I have an old Epson - it di seem to scan quite well. But I use a camera quite a lot these days rather than a scanner, is this an option?

I have cut up a box and lined it with white paper, and use this as my photography box

I don't scan much at all, I would have thought taking photographs would have been a better option to show the dimension in your cards.

I must get myself back into decoupage!!!

Hmm - sadly beginning to look that way for me, although I'd originally photgraphed, but personally find it a lot more hassle as I have hand problems with my disabilities and getting the lighting right too can be an issue, but may have little choice the way things are going. Apparently it's to do with the fact that the later models of scanners have a much lower depth of field because of the newer technology they use - ironic that, but unless I can track down an ancient scanner and even then I couldn't be sure it would work the same again, doubt I'll have to just revert back to the old camera indeed. SO frustrating though :(. Just wondered what others do if keeping a digital record of their work.

Appreciate the input anyway 8) .

I bought a great little tripod at Christmas from Poundland that is perfect for standing a camera on a table - I wonder would that help your hand problems?

I find I have a routine - I make cards and then photograph everything on a sunny day 8)
