Not sure if anyone has any ideas about this, but recently i have been having problems connecting to the internet after updates from Microsoft have been installed onto my computer.

Now and again you get the message that theres an imortant update for your computer don't you? Well i've always just clicked them and they've been fine, but recently, after they've downloaded and restarted my computer, i get the white page comes up saying i could'nt log onto IE.

I've just been either not accepting the updates, or doing a system restore if the computer has done the updates automatically.

Bit of a pain, but i have no idea what the problem might be.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Calv.

Do you have XP or vista? What version of IE do you have?

IE7 is the one that uses the same tabs system as vista - I wonder whether you'd be better to revert to IE6.

is it possible to revert back? I thought once you had that particular update that you could not remove it (I cannot stand the one with the tabs)

Calv, have you done a virus scan? my Dad had something like this ages since and it wasn't a genuine microsoft update message (if I remember correctly)

Other than that have you checked your internet options? something in there might have changed. (start - control panel - internet options - then check your privacy and connections are as they should be)

I am on Windows 2000 and have just had the same problem. For some reason, my firewall was blocking IE.

My neices BF came and fixed it.

The latest Microsoft update has been causing a lot of trouble to many users.

Do you have Zone Alarm. This Microsoft download has be conflicting with ZA. You need to get the most up to date ZA downloaded as ZA have now put an update on their programme to sort this out.

To get back to before you downloaded the M/S update you could try System Restore don't know if that would work.

Thanks Anne, that was exactly the problem by the looks of it.

Have installed new Zone Alarm and Windows patch, all seems ok.

Thank you.

I'm so glad this was posted, I'd been having connection problems and tried everything since last Wed to diagnose the problem.

I followed the fix this morning after borrowing a laptop, I'm back connected to the world again!
