Love it. VERY cool.
As regards the metal work, I have a link to instructions somewhere on here. I am in between exams right now (for my sins) so I'll have a looksee when I am done for the day. It IS straightforward, but takes a bit of practice. Alternatively the way you've done them is perfectly acceptable - if you were making linked sections (say within a necklace) then you'd have to use the loop/wraparound method you talk about - simply for strength).
